Soy Chili Garlic Broccoli

Broccoli is definitely one of those vegetables that is hard to ruin. On its own with just some salt and pepper it can taste delicious. The simplicity of broccoli makes it the perfect vegetable to use as blank canvas for some of my favorite flavors. This Soy Chili Garlic Broccoli is spicy, slightly sweet, sticky, and perfectly charred. That’s enough explaining! Let’s get started with the recipe, shall we?

Ingredients:

Directions:

In a large skillet add in your olive and turn heat to high to warm it up. Whilst it heats up you can start cutting the broccoli florets. You can definitely use some frozen, pre cut broccoli but I just like to decide the size of my florets. Using a small pairing knife turn the broccoli upside down and start by cutting florets away from the base the way they naturally form. When everything is cut I just cut any very large florets in half. Ideally you want some florets that will cook down faster. Once you are done cutting the oil should be heated so place all the broccoli in one layer on the pan.

Once it’s in the pan the broccoli should sizzle a bit as it hits the pan. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes on medium-high heat leaving the broccoli undisturbed. Uncover and flip the broccoli if you notice charring. Allow to cook for 10-15 more minutes, flipping every 5 minutes until you notice even charring on both sides.

Now that broccoli is browning add in minced garlic, chili garlic sauce, and soy sauce, and honey. While the pan is still on medium-high heat stir in sauces and continue mixing as the flavors infuse into broccoli. This should take about 5 minutes while constantly stirring to prevent sticking or burning. A few minute before taking it off the stove add in the sesame oil and mix it through. You can also sprinkle any salt, to taste, at this point. Make sure to taste before adding salt because there is soy sauce in it.

And now, it’s done! It taste best fresh off the stove. You can serve it along with rice or chicken as a side. It’s spicy, sticky, and sweet and is addictive just on its own!
