Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting

I used to be so intimidated by the idea of making my own frosting, mostly because it seemed like something only real, professional bakers do. Plus, after a few failed attempts in my youth I had it in my mind that it just couldn’t be done! However, I soon realized that it’s just about technique and with just a few simple ingredients you can make your own homemade frosting quickly and easily!

This Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting was something I concocted in an effort to level up some regular whipped cream (and regular cream cheese frosting). I love homemade whipped cream just as much as the next person but for cake you want something a little more substantial. This frosting is light, sweet, and tangy and the perfect topping for any cake! Let’s get started with the recipe, shall we?

Ingredients:

Directions:

The most important thing for a cream cheese frosting is starting with some room temperature cream cheese! Trust me, just take the time to take your cream cheese out of the fridge a good 30 minutes before making the frosting. With a spatula or electric beater, whip up the cream cheese until light and softened. In a separate bowl, add in the whipped cream and whip with a hand mixer until you have soft peaks (about 2-3 minutes). Isn’t it just so exciting to watch heavy cream become whipped cream before your very eyes?

Once the whipped cream is done, in 2-3 parts fold into the softened cream cheese until well combined. Once combined, use an electric hand mixer to whip together until stiff peaks form (2-3 minutes).

Looking more frosting-like every minute, eh? Now for the most important part, the sugar! Add in the powdered sugar 1/3 cup at a time, folding in before mixing with electric hand mixer to prevent a big cloud of sugar. Add in remaining sugar and mix until smooth and well combined. Add in vanilla extract and mix thoroughly. And guess what? You just made some frosting and that wasn’t bad at all! Yay yay! It’s light, fluffy, and glossy! And going to taste delicious on top of some red velvet cupcakes or how about some homemade carrot cake? Yes, please!
