Try With Me: Whipped Coffee

At this point I’m sure most everyone familiar with viral trends has heard about the very famously nicknamed whipped coffee, “Dalgona Coffee”. For those who don’t know (which was me up until very recently) this whipped coffee drink holds its origins in India, Pakistan, and Macau where it’s very commonly served with milk poured on top. It quickly gained popularity when a South Korean actor tried it in Macau and nicknamed it Dalgona Coffee for its resemblance to the Korean candy of the same name. And now…here we are, everyone and their mom is whipping up a quick cup of Whipped Coffee and I thought, why haven’t I done this? It honestly is so easy! And with all of us spending our days at home it can be nice to whip up something to dress up your regular intake of coffee. So let’s get on with the recipe, shall we?

Ingredients:

Directions:

This recipe could not be easier which is very exciting for me and you! So guess what? I won’t drag it out for all of you. I know, it’s hard to not read my witty banter for paragraphs on end but I’ll keep it short and sweet just like this recipe 🤗.

Take the instant coffee powder of your choice. We always seem to have dark roast because it’s what my dad drinks but if you prefer light or medium, what the hey, that’s your prerogative! Mix it with the sugar and hot water and just whip it up. And guess what it is literally as simple as that. Even I can’t make this more complicated than it needs to be! Hahaha, wait, I did. I decided to whip this by hand. Why, why did I add this unnecessary work to my life, you may ask? I honestly don’t know but maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me to work out ever since quarantine started.

If you make this, I highly recommend whipping this using an electric hand mixer or even one of those handheld electric milk frothers will make the job easier. Though the arm work out definitely made me feel a little more accomplished. Just whip until medium peaks form and then it;s ready to serve. Simply top it on a cup of cold milk of your choosing or put the whipped coffee in first and top with milk. Give it a good mix and drink up!

The great thing about this recipe is that its a simple 1:1:1 ratio of coffee powder, sugar, and water! So you can scale it up or down to your liking. Could this be an easier recipe?? No, I don’t believe so.

I will admit I am not a coffee drinker, at all. I don’t need it in the morning to wake me up. I don’t crave it ever. The only time I ever drank coffee was to try to stay up when I had to study for a big exam in college and I found out it just made me sleepy. Not exactly what I was looking for. However, I will say that when coffee is included in a drink for me, its more as a flavor. I’m sure real coffee drinkers would be disappointed 😅 but I much prefer a subtle taste of coffee and this gave that to me! When it’s all mixed up it makes a beautifully creamy coffee milk. And since I used a dark roast it was fairly strong but I didn’t feel overwhelmed (probably because of the tablespoon of sugar, hah).

I do hope you give this a try and let me know!
